Florence "Lucille" Annett
April 5, 1930 - February 10, 2025
Florence "Lucille" Annett was born April 5, 1930, at home in Osage, OK, to Robert & Marvie Karraker. She met her Lord and Savior on February 10, 2025. Raised with her younger sister, Roberta, Lucille grew up as an "oil patch" kid, her dad being a pumper. She went by Lucille her entire life, and many who knew her well just called her Lucy.
Lucy attended Osage Schools, graduating in 1948. She began working as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell, first in Osage and then in Cleveland, OK. During this time, she met the love of her life, Edwin Annett. He would wait for her on his Harley when she got off work each evening. They married in 1950 and had three children, Anita, Robert, and Larry, raising their family in Cleveland.
She was raised by parents who put their faith first. During her youth, she cherished special times with her cousins, and many of those bonds have remained strong over the years. As her own family grew, each new addition became dearly loved by Lucy. She always had a generous definition of family. Even friends of her kids and grandkids were like one of her own, and she loved them like a mom.
Lucille served faithfully in her church homes...first at Western Heights Baptist and for many years at First Baptist Cleveland. Teaching Sunday School to young children meant a lot to her, as well as sharing her love for music by playing piano at the Cleveland Manor. She volunteered for the Cleveland Schools, where her children attended. She even drove a school bus route for a time!
Lucy enjoyed going to Colorado on mule deer/elk hunts with Edwin. She later joined him in running Annett & Annett, the family furniture and appliance store, and kept it going long after Edwin's unexpected passing in 1983. Edwin and Lucille's influence and impact on the Cleveland community were a treasured blessing. There are great memories of her as Mrs. Claus at several Cleveland Christmas parades, and she fit the part!
Lucille retired and closed the business in 1998. She then enjoyed her love of traveling, visiting family, friends, and new places. This brought new opportunities to work at Yellowstone National Park for four summers in her 70s. After her last trip back to Yellowstone at 85 years old with her friend Shirley (and just three months before her stroke), she continued to dream of going back someday.
Since suffering a major stroke in the fall of 2015, Lucy has lived in the Trinity Woods Health Center for over 9 years in Tulsa, OK. Lucy continually made a positive impact & was a bright spot in her newest community. The entire staff loved her and got a kick out of her "blinged out" ways as she began to sport pink, purple, or blue hair and jewelry to the nines. She kept a positive outlook and always held on to the hope of someday getting strong enough to go back home to Cleveland.
A friend to many, Lucy always had a quick wit, a great sense of humor, and loads of laughter. Her grandchildren have always thought of her as the "fun Grandma," knowing they could get by with more mischief when at her house. One of her strong suits was finding a way to get along with others, even the cantankerous and ornery ones. Looking past the rough crust, she tried to find a bit of gold in everyone...but don't push her too far!
Lucy was a strong woman with a lot of grit & determination. She was a great example to her family & her love will live on through them. She has been the biggest prayer warrior, praying for each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren daily.
Through difficult family losses and as a breast cancer & stroke survivor, she had her share of heartaches, trials, and disappointments. But through her strong faith in the Lord, a lot of courage, & support from a loving family, she did not just survive through all the trials but thrived because of her faith in the Lord. She used all her life experiences to encourage others, and many have been blessed by them. It is no surprise that everybody loved Lucy! Like her mother, Marvie, she wanted everyone she touched to know about the love of Jesus Christ and His saving grace. Scriptures to cling to as we all remember Lucy are: "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." - Ps 73:26 Also, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Tim 4:7
