Esther Ann Batson was born May 7, 1910 in Price, Oklahoma, near Tulsa. She was the daughter of Malinda Susan and Henry Sherman Casto. Esther moved frequently with her family as a youth as her father followed the railroad. She attended several schools, mostly in northeastern Oklahoma.
Esther was married to Harry H. Batson on December 20, 1926 in Pawnee, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in South Field, south of Cleveland, then later moved to Oilton for nearly twenty four years. The couple then moved to Pawhuska and on to Hominy in 1955. They had seven children, Birt, LaQuita, Harry L., Dixie, Eldon, Donald and Linda.
While residing in Hominy, Esther was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church. She spent countless hours assisting her church family in anyway he could. She was preceded in death by her husband on December 27, 1996 after seventy-years of marriage. Shortly after the death of her husband, Esther moved to the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home for health reasons and then to the Drumright Nursing Home where she passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2005.
Esther spent most of her life dedicated to her family as a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and reading. In addition to being active in her church, Esther assisted with the Cub Scouts in Oilton when her children were young.
In addition to her husband, Esther was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Harry L. Batson; a daughter, LaQuita Lomenick; two brothers, Lawrence and Jasper Casto; five sisters, Ila Foster, Verda Pierce, Gladys Donnelly; Mona Belle Triplett; Olive Shaw and Lenora Casto.
She is survived by three sons, Birt Batson, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Eldon Batson, Overland Park, Kansas and Donald Batson, Fayetteville, Arkansas; two daughters, Dixie Abel, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Linda Wolfe, Lubbock, Texas; twelve grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and eleven great great-grand children.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm, Monday, October 3, 2005 at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Oilton with Rev. Ryan Humble officiating. Burial will be at the Dixie-Bear Creek Cemetery, south of Cleveland under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Ricky Batson, David Lomenick, Lindell Forbes, DeLos Batson, Clark Batson, Tim Batson and Tabb Forbes.
