Ellyn Joyce Hewitt

Ellyn Joyce Hewitt, life long resident of Cleveland, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016, at her home at the age of 86 years, five months and three days.

Ellyn was born October 25, 1929, on the family farm south of Cleveland, Oklahoma. She is the daughter of Floyd Leroy and Myrtle Merle (Hall) Hart. Ellyn was raised in the family farm and started her education in Hallett. She later transferred to Terlton and graduated with the Class of 1948. Soon after high school Ellyn was united in marriage to the love of her life Alfred Weslie Hewitt in Blackwell, Oklahoma. The couple established their home in Cleveland where they have raised their four children Gerald, Clifford, Clinton and Lavonne. Ellyn worked a short time at Munsingwear in Hominy however she loved being a mother and wife the most. In 1967, Ellyn and Weslie moved to their current home where they have continued to reside.

Family was very important to Ellyn. Gatherings during the holidays and cooking everyone’s favorite dishes was what she loved to do. Ellyn always seem to sacrifice herself for her family that she loved dearly. She is described as a very wonderful, kind hearted as well as very sweet and loving. Ellyn also loved babysitting especially when it was her grandchildren. Ellyn and Weslie always enjoyed going to Branson and taking trips.

There are several different foods that she cooked that her family enjoyed some of them are biscuits and gravy, beans and corn bread, spaghetti, liver and onions. However, her desserts were always what hit the right spot for everyone. Saturdays were also very important to Ellyn. Having everyone over to the house to watch Sooner games and always making sure everyone had enough food.

Survivors are her husband Weslie of the home, four children Gerald Hewitt and his wife Sherry of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Clifford Hewitt and his wife Kim of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Clinton Hewitt and his girlfriend Shari Sawyer of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Lavonne Goodell and her husband Micheal of Osage, Oklahoma; one sister Carmen Shotwell of Ripley, Oklahoma, six grandchildren Micheal Goodell, Jr, Kimberly Ellyn Cox, Colton Weslie Hewitt, Chelsea Rae LeForce, Kody Vaughn Hewitt, Ashley Jo Webster; twelve great grandchildren Briauna, Haley, Megan, Jerome, Jessika, Allyson, Emery, Owen, Hope, Lilly, Gunner, Wyatt and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents Ellyn was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Freeman and a brother Bill Hart.
