Ellamae Jean Varnell

EllaMae Jean Varnell, longtime resident of Mannford, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years old.

Jean was born December 14, 1934, in Terlton, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Robert Lee and Mildred Opal (Wilkie) Devine. Jean was raised and received her education where she graduated high school with the Class of 1954. On April 20, 1957, Jean was united in marriage to Benny Lee Varnell in Huntsville, Arkansas. Following the couple’s marriage, they resided in the Tulsa Area. During their time in Tulsa Jean worked at TG&Y for several years before moving to Mannford in 1959, where the couple has continued to reside.

Jean enjoyed cooking but especially loved to bake. Jean also had numerous house plants that she enjoyed tending to. She also enjoyed doing ceramics, painting and cake decorating. Jean loved to crochet as well. Jean made each one of her children and grandchildren an afghan for them to keep and in remembrance of her. Jean also spent many hours quilting. She especially enjoyed opportunities to spend time with her family and their families. Jean always looked forward to the times she would go and be able to listen to Benny play his guitar with his friends.

Survivors are her husband Benny of the home, three daughters Kimberly Dobson and her husband Kyle of Mannford, Oklahoma, Sharon Bell of Mannford, Oklahoma, Lisa and her husband Gary Scott of Mannford, Oklahoma; stepdaughter Paula Finley of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and family, six grandchildren Jennifer Hixson, Shanna Madewell, Tyler Hallmark, Clay Dobson, Sierra Cobble, Sydney Biggin; four great grandchildren Liam, Natalie, Melody, Carlisle and a host of other relatives and friends that will mourn her passing. In addition to her parents Jean was preceded in death by one sister Phyllis Dale Owens.

Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Monday at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Manuel Parker officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Mannford, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
