Eileen Dorathy Carter

Eileen Dorothy (Sharrett) Carter joined our Lord and Savior on Monday, April 25th, 2011. Eileen was born on November 9th, 1928 in the living room of her familyís farm house in Davenport Township, Scott County, IA. She attended the Summit Church and learned of His Word. Eileen had dreams and worked towards them. When she turned 18 years of age, she decided to move to Tucson, Arizona! A bold move for a young lady in 1946. While in Arizona, Eileen met Howard Henry Carter, whom she married and made a home with in 1952. The young couple eventually moved back to Howardís hometown of Oklahoma City/Edmond, where they raised three sons. Eileen secured a coveted job with the Federal Aviation Administration in 1961 in materials management in Oklahoma City, and retired after serving 45 years in May of 2006. Eileen resided on 126th Street in Edmond before she moved in 2003. She was also active in the Eastern Star, a Cub Scout leader and active in her church. Eileen led a full life and blessed so many. She was a devoted mother, an avid reader; she loved old movies and plays. Eileen also knitted intricately designed blankets, some award winning. Early in life Eileen showed her talent and won many awards for her handiwork. Multi-talented, Eileen won awards for her peas, beans and other produce. Her cross stitching art is displayed in homes today. Eileen also enjoyed playing old hymns on the organ. What Eileen loved most was people, Eileen loved to laugh and was always in the midst of a joke and good time. Despite her humorous and boisterous nature, Eileen was also a compassionate listener and confidant. She will be missed by all. Eileen is survived by her thee sons, Terry Carter and his wife, Ann, David Carter and his wife, Catherine, Ricky Carter; one sister, Lorraine Kuehl Washburn; five grandchildren Tiffany, Chris, Bryan, Chelsea and Codie; three great grandchildren, Alieah, Aiden and Ethan; several cousins and beloved nieces Linda, Suzy and Janice. Eileen follows family members to the Lord by her infant son, Ronnie, her mother Dorothy Drenter Sharrett, and her brother Kenny Sharrett. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, May 2, 2011 at the Summit Church in Davenport, Iowa. Memorial contributions maybe made to the Scott County Historical Society at P.O. Box 5165, Davenport, IA 52722. Funeral services are under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
