Effie Marie Vandever of Cleveland, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, November 8, 2008, at the Claremore Regional Hospital in Claremore, Oklahoma at the age of age 79. Effie was born near Prue, Oklahoma in rural Osage County on October 11, 1929; she was the daughter of Bill and Elsie (Lay) Dixon. As a young lady Effie grew up and attended the Old Prue schools. At the completion of her education Effie was united in marriage to Marion Harvey Vandever on December 3, 1947 in Prue, Oklahoma. Effie and Marion made their initial home in Cleveland, Oklahoma where they raised their three sons Jerry, Harvey and Fred. The couple resided in Terlton for a short time but returned to Cleveland and continued to reside there until supplemental care was needed for health reasons. Marion was moved to the Oklahoma Veterans Home in Claremore in May of 2005; then in October of 2005 Effie moved to the Sterling House in Owasso, an assisted living center. Later she moved to the Cedar Crest Nursing Facility in Broken, Arrow to be closer to her son. In 2007, Effie moved to the Wood Manor Retirement Center in Claremore. Effie worked for many years as a nurseÃs aide; she was employed during her career at the Cleveland Area Hospital, Tulsa Regional Medical Center, Hillcrest Hospital and the DoctorÃs Hospital in Tulsa. She also served as a private nurse for Mr. Hugh B. Ross in Cleveland for many years as well as for Sam and Violet Ingles. Effie loved to fish, crochet, sew, cook and would always trim her blouses with lace. She is described as probably one of the best cooks in town. Effie had a love for people; she loved to help and really cherished the ones that she was able to care for during her time as a nurse. Survivors are her husband Marion of the Oklahoma Veterans Home, three sons Jerry Dixon and his wife Cathy of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Harvey Vandever and his wife Marilyn of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Fred Vandever of Hodgkins, Oklahoma, five brothers George Dixon of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Richard Goodman of Warrensburg, Missouri, Ivan Goodman of Henrietta, Oklahoma, Harold Goodman of Mannford, Oklahoma, Clifford Goodman; two sisters Mary Carpenter of Claremore, Oklahoma, Bess Andrews and her husband David of Colorado Springs, Colorado; ten grandchildren, Shane, Rodney, Mary, Jarod, Brant, Gary, Kristin, Curtis, Jennifer, Jessica, fourteen great grandchildren, two great great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by father Bill L. Dixon, mother Elsie Lay and one brother Roy Gene Dixon.
