Edith King

Edith M King, of Houma, Louisiana, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at the age of 89 years old.  Edith was born May 2, 1926, in Barton County, Kansas.  She was the daughter of  James Benjamin ( J.B.) and Clarrisa (Larkin) Carroll.  As a young girl Edith grew up in Barton County.  She began her education in a small one room school in Barton County.  Following the completion of her education Edith helped her family on the farm.  On April 10, 1949, Edith was united in marriage to Robert G. King in Hoisington, Kansas.  Following their marriage the couple resided in Russell, Kansas and later the family moved to Stroud, Oklahoma.  Edith worked hard taking care of the four children, David "Dave" Robert, James "Jimmy Lee", Debra Kay and Arthur Christopher "AC" as well as providing a loving home for them to grow up in.  In 1971, the family relocated to Houma, Louisiana where she continued to reside.  Edith felt that some of her greatest accomplishments were her children.  She enjoyed opportunities to baby sit her grandchildren and loved to help the elderly.  Some of her fondest memories were working in the garden, milking cows as a young lady and the day she was married to Bob.  Edith enjoyed sewing, she made numerous things such as dolls and baby clothes; but she enjoyed making quilts for her family and friends the most.  Other notable memories were boating, shrimping, camping and the trip to Disney World with the family. Some of Edith's favorite music to listen to was country western, and   gospel.  She is survived by her sons David R. King and his wife DeEtte of Edmond, Oklahoma, James L. King and his wife Jenny of Edmond, Oklahoma, Arthur C. "A.C." King and his wife Paula of Houma, Louisiana, Daughter Debra Pearce and her husband Ken of Riverside, California; a sister Betty Smith of Hoisington, Kansas; twelve grandchildren Corey, Aaron, Robert, Leanne, Natasha, Jeannie, Lee' Land, Mary, Sarah, Hannah, John, Christopher, and  eleven great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers James B. Carroll, Charles W. Carroll, and three sisters Geneva "Sissy" Carroll, Irene Hickey, Ruby Farnsworth.  Services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, August 24, 2015 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Dr. Ken Pearce officiating.  Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.  Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com
