Edd Carter, longtime Cleveland area resident, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at the Southern Oaks Care Center in Pawnee at the age of eighty-five years, two months and five days.
Edd was born June 1, 1918 in rural Caddo County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Luther and Rosetta May Carter. He moved with his family at the age of two to the Barnsdall area and then to Avant shortly thereafter. He attended school in Avant. Upon completion of his schooling, Edd worked in the oilfields near Wild Horse for a couple of years before starting a career in the dry cleaning business.
He was employed by Dave Horton in Tulsa in the dry cleaning operation for several years before owning and operating his own dry cleaners in Sand Springs and then Cleveland. He was married to Ruth Estelle Cutler in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 21, 1943. The couple made their initial home in the Cleveland area as Edd was operating a dry cleaning business here and then moved to Oxnard, California in 1955. He then purchased dry cleaners in Oxnard and operated the business successfully until the couple returned to Cleveland in 1969.
Upon their return to Cleveland, Edd accepted employment working for Corky Chronic in the cement/concrete business. He continued to work there for the next thirteen years before retiring. Later he opened a small engine/lawnmower repair business which he continued to operate until the past couple of years. For health reasons he was admitted to Southern Oaks Care Center recently and shared a room with his wife, Ruth.
Edd's hobbies included working on small engines and rebuilding and fixing Model T's. He especially enjoyed his family and spending time with his daughters, brother and sisters.
He is survived by his two daughters, Thelma Robison of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Lorene Loney of Sperry, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Clyde Green, Bill Green, Glenn Green, Tania Reaves, Morgan Robison and Jacob Robison: three great grandchildren, brother, Thelbert Carter of Cleveland, Oklahoma; four sisters, Juanita Welch of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Nora Estes of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Ethel Simmons of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Kathleen Foote of Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
