Earl L. Guinn was born January 26, 1923 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was the son of Nathan H. and Alta Mae Guinn. Earl moved with his family at an early age to Allison, Texas where he was raised and attended school.
Upon completion of his education, Earl was inducted into the service of his country in the United States Army where he served honorably during World War II in the South Pacific including Saipan and Iwo Jima. Upon his release from active duty, Earl moved to Kansas where he met and married Doris J. Corn on October 20, 1946 in Geneso, Kansas. The couple made their initial home in Paola where they purchased and operated a dump truck service.
In 1950, Earl and Doris moved to Wichita when Earl accepted employment with the Boeing Aircraft Company. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Boeing for nearly nineteen years before his retirement in 1969.
After his retirement, Earl attended heating and air conditioning training and received his contractor license. He then began working in that capacity until the couple moved to Cleveland in 1976. While residing in Cleveland, Earl and his nephew, Danny operated a heating and air conditioning company together for several years.
Earl was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cleveland. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Free and Accepted Masons, Hebron Lodge #215; and received a fifty-year pin from the lodge several years ago. After their retirement, Earl and Doris enjoyed traveling, especially to Wyoming and California. He also enjoyed reading about civil war history and western novels.
Earl passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004 at his home in Cleveland at the age of eighty-one years, four months and sixteen days. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ervin , Sam and Nathan, Jr.
He is survived by his wife Doris of fifty-seven years and a multitude of nieces and nephews, many which where like children and grandchildren to them.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm, Thursday, June 24, 2004 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, June 25, 2004 at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel with Rev. George Boston officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial be made to the Cleveland Library and Meals on Wheels.
