Doyle was born November 12, 1932 in Keystone, Oklahoma. He was the son of George Martin and Edna Marie (Avers) Mills. As a young child Doyle was raised and received his education in Keystone where he started school. Doyle later graduated from Keystone Schools in 1950. Soon after graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps. Following a four year term Doyle was honorably discharged and returned to the Cleveland, Oklahoma area. On December 21, 1956, Doyle was united in marriage to Martha Louise Wilcoxson at the home of Thomas and Norma Bartley in Keystone. Following their marriage they established a home in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Doyle gained employment with Sheffield Steel in Sand Springs. He continued working in Sand Springs until he was accepted into the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Academy in Norman, Oklahoma. Following graduation in July of 1958; Doyle and Louise moved to Anadarko, Oklahoma where he was stationed for over five years. They then moved to Chickasha where he remained until his promotion to Supervisor of District 1 in Oklahoma City. After a short time Doyle decided the he wanted to return to patrolling and returned to the field and was stationed in Okemah, Oklahoma. In 1969, a position reopened in Anadarko and he was transferred to that location where he remained until his retirement in October of 1998. Doyle enjoyed being outdoors. He loved to hunt quail, deer and pheasant as well as spend time fishing on the Washita River. Doyle also had a large garden that he loved to share with his friends and family. Doyle and Louise also loved to travel. They would take yearly trips to Ruidoso, New Mexico. During that time they would go trout fishing and going to the races. Doyle loved tending to his cattle and spending time at his river resort on the Washita River. He was also an avid Sooner and Dallas Cowboy fan. Doyle Gene Mills, passed from this life on Monday, February 8, 2010 at the age of 77 years. Survivors include his wife, Louise of the home, three sisters Norma Bartley of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Elaine Medlock of Goodletsville, Tennessee, Doris Schwenk of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two brothers Wayne Mills of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Ronnie Mills of Mannford, Oklahoma as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Edna Marie (Avers) Mills father George Martin Mills, three sisters Billie Sue Brewer, Gloria Wallingford, Carol Mills; two brothers Glenn Mills and Gaylen Mills. Church Services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, February 11, 2010 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Hall and Chaplain Sam L. Garner officiating. Honors were provided by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Honor Guard. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
