Dovie Lee Davis of Cleveland was born May 22, 1922 in Harrison, Arkansas to John and Vera Jones. Dovie was raised and received her education on the farm in the Harrison Area. At the onset of World War II Dovie moved to California to gain employment at the shipyards. While working in the shipyards she met her husband Charles G. Davis. After their marriage they made their home in Western Kansas. They moved to many different places following the oil field and finally made their home in Enid, Oklahoma in the mid 1950Ãs.
Dovie began working as a waitress in several of the local restaurants for many years, which include Dan and Bake and the Tijuana Restaurant. Dovie later accepted employment at the Enid State School in the Laundry Department. Dovie continued working at the Enid State School and upon her retirement, she began baby sitting children. Dovie continued her baby sitting for many years and moved to Cleveland due to her wonderful love of children to continue helping take care one familyÃs children. In 1996 Dovie retired from baby sitting. Dovie enjoyed being with people as well as the outdoors and would help anybody in need. She was currently a member of the Oak Hill Church on Keystone Lake in Terlton, Oklahoma.
Dovie went to be with her Lord and Saviour Sunday, August 14, 2005 at her home in Cleveland, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years 2 months and 22 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles G. Davis and one brother Emmitt Jones.
Survived by her two children John Davis of Cleveland, Oklahoma; Dan Davis of Enid, Oklahoma; granddaughter Sarah Parks of Osage, Oklahoma; one brother, Justin Crouch of Enid, Oklahoma; one great grandchild and numerous other friends and extended family.
Services will be held August 19, 2005 at 2:00 pm at Osage Cemetery officiated by Rev. Harrel Jones. Burial will be at Osage Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
