Dorothy Peace Turner was born November 11, 1918 in Keystone, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Otto and Selena (Duck) O'Kief. Her mother had the flu at the time of her birth and Dorothy arrived nearly six weeks early. She had a very happy early childhood as her parents provided all her needs and she was blessed with a brother and sister over the next few years. Dorothy learned to cook and do many household duties at an early age as she assisted her mother in taking care of her younger siblings. She attended school in the Keystone area and graduated from high school in 1936. Upon completion of her high school education, Dorothy attended Oklahoma A&M and Northeastern State to earn her college degree in education. She accepted her first teaching position in Sand Springs where she taught third grade for three years. At this time she met Harry Turner and the couple dated for nearly three years before being married on June 18, 1944 at Sapulpa, Oklahoma. A year later Harry and Dorothy had their first child, a son, Larry. He was very active and kept Dorothy busy in his early years. Later, Dorothy accepted a position teaching in Keystone schools for several years and then had their second child, Pamela. Shortly after Pamela's birth, the family moved to Oklahoma City where Dorothy continued her teaching career for nearly twenty additional years. Following a heart attack at the age of sixty-two, Dorothy was forced to stop her teaching career. Her mother required much attention and Harry and Dorothy relocated to the Keystone Lake area to assist with her care. Shortly after the death of her mother, Harry had a heart attack which shifted Dorothy's care to her husband and she provided him with excellent care until his passing on November 15, 2009. She often said that the Lord blessed her with good health so she could continue her purpose in life of helping others. Dorothy considered herself fortunate to have a wonderful family that treated her with compassion and respect which provided great joy to her life. She prayed often for her family and continued to be a servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ until he called her home on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the age of ninety-one years. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. She is survived by her son, Larry O. Turner, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter, Pamela D. Williams, Cleveland, Oklahoma; sister, LaFern Swift; four grandchildren Jason, Selena, Tyler and Chris; two great grandchildren Abigail and Trent as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
