Dorothy Mae Long was born July 23, 1933 in Wynona, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Arthur and Alice Martin. Dorothy was raised and attended school in Wynona, graduating from Wynona High School in 1951.

Dorothy was married to Bill L. Long on May 3, 1952 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Wynona for the first five years and then moved to Pawhuska. In 1958, they moved to Wichita, Kansas where they raised their two children, Sandra and Michael. They resided in Wichita until 1973 when they moved to McPherson, Kansas. While in McPherson, Dorothy worked for Allied Insurance for a few years before accepting employment with National Coop Refinery Association (NCRA) as a computer operator. Upon the couple's retirement they moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma in 1995.

Dorothy enjoyed traveling and camping. She was an excellent cook and especially liked having large family meals and cookouts. While residing in McPherson, she hosted an annual family dinner during pheasant season. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Dorothy passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2003 at her home near Cleveland at the age of seventy-years, three months and thirteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Bennie Martin and three sisters: Delight Stephens, Bernice Bryant and Bonnie Williams.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, , Bill L. Long, of the home; daughter, Sandra Loux of Wichita, KS; son, Michael and his wife, Betty Long of Shreveport, LA; sister, Daisy Keener of Caney, Ks; brother, A C Martin of Mannford, Ok; grandchildren, Terry, Shawn, Bill, Shelly and Kristy; and several nieces and nephews,

Graveside funeral services will be held the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy, Oklahoma with Chaplain Kayla Taylor officiating. Burial was under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
