Dorothy Shyne Byers was born in New Underwood, South Dakota on September 10, 1939 to John C. and Margaret Gishwiller Shyne. She graduated from Sturgis High School and went to business college. Dorothy worked at Ft. Meade and Ellsworth Air Force Base prior to marrying Gene Byers on January 8, 1968. Dorothy and Gene had one son, Randall.    Dorothy and Gene made their home in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Dorothy went back to work once Randy was older, spending several years at ARC Electric, the Corps of Engineers in Tulsa, and retiring from the U.S. Army Personnel Office at  Ft. Riley, Kansas.    Dorothy loved spending time with her grandchildren, attending their many activities, and reading. She loved her family and her community, volunteering much of her time to the local library and hospital.    Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Shyne, her brothers Daniel, Patrick, and Michael, her mother- and father-in-law Que and Opal Byers, sister-in-law Shirley Byers, sister-in-law Barb Shyne, and brother- and sister-in-law Ken and Carol Byers.    Dorothy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gene Byers, son Randy Byers and his wife Cheryl of Cleveland, grandson Jacob Que Byers and his wife Courtney of Oklahoma City, granddaughter Caitlin Byers of Cleveland, as well as her two sisters, Judy and Jeanie Shyne of Sturgis, South Dakota. She is also survived by Jim Byers of Cleveland, Fred Byers and his wife Anna of Wichita, Jack Byers and his wife Patricia of Illinois, and Betty Carpenter and her husband Gary of Niceville, Florida, in addition to many nieces and nephews.    In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jay C. Byers Memorial Library in Cleveland.
