Doris Irene Dunlap

Doris Irene Dunlap, a longtime resident of Jennings, Oklahoma, passed away on, Sunday, January 8, 2017, at the Oklahoma Methodist Manor at the age of 89 years old.

Doris was born April 11, 1927, in Jennings, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Roy Floyd and Minnie Lou (Wilson) Martin. Doris was raised and attended school in Hallett and Jennings where she completed her education. On November 19, 1944, in Yale, Oklahoma, Doris was united in marriage to James Newell Dunlap. Following the couple's marriage, they moved to California where Jim was stationed while serving in the Navy. They returned to Oklahoma in 1945 where their son Jimmie was born in 1946.
Doris and Jim frequently moved due to Jim’s job in the oil field. They lived in Kansas, Wyoming, California, Texas and Oklahoma, but always maintained their primary residence in Jennings.
Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She always enjoyed having people in her home. She was an excellent seamstress and cook, and took numerous classes with the Count Extension Office and Vo-Tech because she enjoyed learning more.

Doris and Jim loved traveling with family and friends. They were members of the Good Sams Chiefs Club for many years.


Being a Christian and Godly woman was the most important part of her life. Doris was a longtime member of the Jennings First Baptist Church.

Survivors are her son Jimmie and his wife Kathy Dunlap of Tulsa, Oklahoma; granddaughter Megan and her husband Jed Ballew and their children, James Jackson and Lucy Jane Ballew, all of Tulsa; sister Lavon Alexander and her husband Marvin of Jennings, Oklahoma. A large extended family including many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous close friends were an important part of Doris's life. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband Jim of nearly 66 years.

A memorial services will be held Sunday, January 29th at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Jennings, Oklahoma with Rev. Mark Compton officiating.
