Doris Frances Allen passed away in Petoskey, Michigan, on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the age of 88 years seven months and nine days. Doris was born on September 23, 1923 in St. Ignace, Michigan; she was the daughter of Albert and Frances (Smith) Aslin. As a young girl Doris grew up in St. Ignues where she attended Catholic Schools. Following the completion of her education Doris was united in marriage to William Ades Allen, Sr. on April 5, 1947 at Angola, Indiana. Doris and Bill made their home in Homer, Michigan following their marriage. Doris gained employment at a local factory for Corning Glass works in Albion, Michigan where she worked for over 25 years when she retired in the mid 1970Ãs. Following the retirement of Doris and Bill moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma in 1977. Doris continued to reside in Cleveland until her health started failing in December of 2011. At that time she moved to Petoskey, Michigan. Doris spent many hours helping Bill in the garden. The couple would harvest their vegetables and then bring them to town and sell to the local patrons. Doris always felt the reason she out lived Bill was ìbecause he did all the supervising and she did all the work.î Doris love to go and play bingo and very excited once she was transferred to a nursing center and found out they played bingo. Most of all in life Doris loved her family and cherished the times she was able to take care of her grandchildren. Survivors are her seven children Frances Combs of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Carol Hardmeyer of Cleveland, Oklahoma, William Ades, Jr. of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Doris J. Martinez of Jackson, Michigan, Susan K. Allen of Petoskey, Michigan, James P. Allen of Homer, Michigan, Debra Rivera of West Port, Indiana; siblings Eva Allen of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Fred Aslin of Charlotte, Michigan, nineteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by husband William Ades Allen, Sr., sister Gertrude Faulkner and a grandson John Eric Dearth. Funeral services will be held at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel at 11:00 am Saturday, May 5, 2012 with Father Bruce Brosnahan officiating. Burial will follow next to her husband in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
