Donald Kay Daniel

Donald Kay Daniel, 85, of Terlton, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 9:47 p.m. at his home surrounded by family. He was born October 13, 1932 in Altus, Oklahoma to Willie Newman Daniel and her husband, Alva Dee Daniel. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Metcalf on December 27, 1952.

Donald received his Bachelor of Education in 1954, and became a Master of Education in1961; both degrees were issued by the University of Oklahoma. An award winning educator, Donald faithfully served the students of Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri and the Marshall Islands for over forty years. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Head Start Program in Oklahoma. He was one of the earliest pioneers in the implementation of computer science education at the elementary school level, founding a computer lab in 1981. Locally, many will remember him as the principal of Terlton Schools from 1977 - 1987.

Always sharing of himself with his community, Donald was an active Kiwanis Club member for many years. An avid oil painter and woodworker, he added beauty and joy to the lives of his friends and family. With help of his wife and children, he began work on his dream home in 1974, where he and his wife have resided ever since, surrounded by their remarkable collections of shells and memorabilia from their time in the Pacific. Fishing, RV'ing and a keen interest in sports were pursuits which provided him ample opportunity to relax.

Donald is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Dorothy Mae Daniel; his children, Darrel and Sally Daniel of Jennings, Oklahoma, Debbie Samson of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Dennis and Angela Daniel of Montgomery, Texas; grandchildren, Jared Samson, Aaron Daniel, Jacob Daniel, Dominique Miles, Tirion Daniel, Torin Daniel and Tiergan Daniel; numerous other family, friends and former students that will continue to celebrate his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Glenn. He will be sorely missed.
