Dollie A. Lay

Dollie A. Lay was born February 24, 1917 in Fruita, Colorado. She was the daughter of L. Ed and Angus G. Barker. Dollie moved often with her family during her youth as they lived in California, Kansas and all over Oklahoma.

Dollie was married to Loy Burgess Lay on June 20, 1937 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in the Boston Pool area and later moved to Mannford where they established their home.

Dollie was employed by the Drumright Nursing Home for several years, working in house keeping doing laundry. Loy preceded her in death on May 22, 1986 after forty-nine years of marriage. The couple had two children; Loy C. and Norma.

Although she worked at the nursing home for several years, Dollie devoted her life to taking care of her husband and children as a homemaker. She loved her family and enjoyed raising a garden, sewing and knitting. Dollie was forced to leave her home in 1998 when for health reasons she moved to the Cimarron Pointe Nursing Center in Mannford. When she first arrived at the nursing home, she often attempted to help the staff do the daily laundry, just as she had while working in Drumright.

Dollie passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2003 at the Cimarron Pointe Nursing Center at the age of eighty-six years, six months and seven days. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Granville and Lyle Barker and a sister, Mary Meadows. She also had another brother, Clev.

Dollie is survived by a son and his wife, L. C. and Mary Lay, Phoenix, Arizona; a daughter and her husband, Norma and Donald Barnett, Cleveland, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Jerry C. Lay, Phoenix, Arizona, Alan N. and Marie Lay, Phoenix, Arizona, Michael and Summer Barnett, Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Stephen Barnett, Cleveland, Oklahoma and Janie Cartwright, Hominy, Oklahoma; and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at the Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel in Mannford with Dr. Larry Wilson officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
