Dewey ''Red'' Crabtree

Dewey Douglas Crabtree, better known as Red, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2001 at the Tulsa Regional Medical Center in Tulsa, at the age of sixty-eight years, seven months and twenty-one days.

Red was born April 8, 1933 in Dighton, Oklahoma. He was the son of Al and Bernice (Rose) Crabtree. Red was raised and received his education in the Henrietta area. As a young child he also attended schools in Hoffman, Oklahoma.

Red was inducted into the service of this country into the United States Army on May 5, 1953. Upon completion of his military service, Red was honorably discharged on April 15, 1955 and returned to the Prue area.

Shortly after returning from the service, Red started his own auto repair center, which he owned and operated for many years. He was united in marriage to Ann Van Meter on October 10, 1990 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The couple established their home in Prue and have continued to reside there until the time of Red's death. In 1997, Red accepted employment with APAC in Tulsa where he worked as an asphalt laydown machine operator. Red was also a past member of Veteran's of Foreign War.

Red is survived by his wife, Ann Crabtree, of the home; four children, Douglas Allen Crabtree, Phoenix, Arizona; Karen Sue McNeeley, Amarillo, Texas; Linda Kay and husband William Edwards, Pittsburg, Kansas; Eric Gean Crabtree, Terlton, Oklahoma; two stepchildren, Robert Borin, Prue, Oklahoma; Gary Borin, Prue, Oklahoma; fifteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dinc and Donald, as well as a sister, Shirley Combs.


Services will be held December 3, 2001 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Pure, Oklahoma with Richard Toothman officiating the services burial will be in the Prue Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
