Ronald Derek Reed, 53, known by many as Deak, passed from this life August 1, 2019, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born February 10, 1966, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Silas Hershell and Jacquie Charlene (Jackson) Reed. Attending school in Olive, Deak graduated with the class of 1984. Being active in sports, Deak earned a scholarship to play baseball at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, Oklahoma, then transferred to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. In 1991, Deak graduated with a bachelor’s in Safety and Human & Health Performance . Deak then moved to Shidler to work at Bridgeway Inc. in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Afterward; he moved to Owasso, Oklahoma to work at the Children’s Medical Center in Claremore. Following that, he worked at Eagle Ridge, Child Welfare in Tahlequah, Muskogee, and Wagoner offices followed by Developmental Disabilities Services Division in Tahlequah. Deak recently began working at the Department of Human Services Child Welfare Division in Tulsa.
Deak liked to ride his bike and raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis and the American Diabetes Association. There was never a grandkids ballgame missed. A favorite memory of Deak’s was the family trip to Hawaii. Deak was saved and dedicated his life to the Lord at a very young age in his school locker room by his teacher /coach George Brock. He was a deacon at Calvary Assembly in Tahlequah for a while, where he and his wife Karen taught the Royal Rangers. At Southside Baptist in Tahlequah, he was in the choir, co-leading many worship songs. The bible was his book. He loved attending church and praising the Lord. Deak loved his family and grandkids dearly. Deak always wanted to ride on a train, but sadly did not get to.
Survivors include his wife Karen of the home, two children Chanyng Whitekiller and her husband B.J. of Lost City, Oklahoma, Ryan Reed of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, mother Jacquie Reed of Mannford, Oklahoma; three brothers Danny Reed and wife Deloris of Mannford, Oklahoma, Doug Reed and his wife Kathy of Mannford, Oklahoma, David Reed of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, father-in-law Logan Reece of Jay, Oklahoma; two grandchildren Brayden and Brenna Jo of Lost City, Oklahoma. Deak is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Earl and Margaret Almy, paternal grandparents Othaniel and Emma Sue Reed, father Silas, mother-in-law Donna Reece.
Visitation for Deak will be held Monday, August 5, 2019, at Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland, Oklahoma from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Services for Deak will be Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at the Olive First Baptist Church at 2:00 PM. Services are under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
