David Wayne Collins

David ‘Dave’ Wayne Collins, 62, passed from this life July 27, 2019, which would have been his son, Michael’s, 42nd birthday. Born January 12, 1957 in Henryetta, Oklahoma.

Dave was the son of Walter and Sue (Winn) Collins. He grew up in Henryetta until the 6th grade. When the family moved to Tulsa, he attended Gilcrease Junior High, then East Central High School, but he couldn’t stop getting into fights so his parents made him change high schools, and graduated from Will Rogers High School with the class of 75 with honors. Later, he met Anita Marie Boyd, and the couple were united in marriage on March 6, 1979. Dave continued his education at Tulsa Junior College. After graduating, Dave began work at Wheatley as a machinist, then took a job as a supervisor at McDonnell Douglas. After several years, Dave went to Central Tech in Drumright and studied to become a copier tech. After completion at Vo Tech, Dave began work at Ricoh, then J.D. Young for the past 25 years as a service manager.

Dave has been described as a country boy that liked to water ski, hunt, fish, go noodling, and spending time on Keystone Lake with his family and very close friends. His favorite game show was Wheel of Fortune, where he made it a family competition to solve the puzzle first that has been passed on through the generations already. Dave has been described as transparent. He said what he meant and meant what he said. Everyone always knew where they stood with Dave. Family described him as honest, witty, competitive, hard-working and straight up. Ike’s Chili, Hickory House and Freeway Café were a few places Dave frequented weekly. Dave was spiritual, but also observed his Cherokee heritage.

Survivors include his mother Sue Collins of Weleetka, Oklahoma, three children Misti Collier of Marshall, Arkansas, Brady Collier of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Allison Poole and her husband Carter of Collinsville, Oklahoma; one sister Beverly Stewart and her husband Larry of Jenks, Oklahoma; nephews Christopher Stewart and Matthew Stewart and his wife, Ktina; fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving Dave is his beloved dog, Koda Grace, who was given to him from Michael.

Dave is preceded in death by his father Walter Collins, wife Anita, son Michael, and a niece, Kimberly.
Memorial services for Dave will be held Thursday, August 1, 2019, at 2:00pm at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel. Services are under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. An online guestbook is available at www.chapman-black.com.
