David Oscar Whitewing, a resident of Hominy was born May 11, 1960 in Pawnee, Oklahoma the son of Oscar, Jr. and Joyce (Gaines) Whitewing. David was raised and received his education in Hominy. As a young man David was very active in sports which include baseball, football and track. David is most notable for his accomplishment and long time standing record in pole vaulting. He obatined this achievement at the state championship meet in Norman, Oklahoma where he finished as the Oklahoma State Champion. He was so determined to be the best pole vaulter that he practiced countless hours at home with his homemade pole vaulting pole.
David loved animals and being with his family and friends. David always enjoyed having his friends over at his house. He also loved to fish and camp out. David had a special calling when it came to animals. He would often go to his grandmotherÃs chicken house and the chickens would just stand there until David would reach down and pick one of them up. David would always end of his conversation on the phone with a ìI Love Youî.
David passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2006 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 46 years 5 months and 20 days. He was preceded in death by his father Oscar in September of 2001.
Survived by his mother and step father, Joyce Whitewing and Leroy Slate of Hominy, Oklahoma; sister, Mandi Whitewing of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two aunts, Frances and Mary Lou; four nephews, John, Sam, Ben and Will as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Graveside services and burial will be held Saturday, November 4, 2006 at 11:00 am in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Larry Wilson officiating under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
