David F. Martin, lifelong Cleveland area resident, was born January 13, 1938 in Three Sands, Oklahoma, He was the son of Helena and Alvin Dean Martin. He spent his early childhood with his family in Tonkawa and then moved to Cleveland where he graduated from Cleveland High School in 1956.
Upon graduation from high school, David joined the National Guard, 45th Infantry in Hominy for a couple of years before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in El Paso Texas during his enlistment and returned to Cleveland upon his honorable discharge on September 19, 1958.
Upon his honorable discharge from military service, David returned to Oklahoma where he began a career in the oilfields of Oklahoma and New Mexico. He was married to Jo Anna Anders on May 23, 1960 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. The couple had three sons, Glenn, Alvin and Robert. David later accepted employment with Dow Well Company in Hominy as a truck driver where he continued to work until the company moved to Louisiana upon its merger with Halliburton. He was a member of First Christian Church, Cleveland, Oklahoma. Additionally, David worked as a carpenter for many years. His enjoyment in woodworking lead to his hobby in crafting beautiful works of art, including ocean scenes and eagles.
He passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at his home in Cleveland, Oklahoma at the age of 64 years 8 months and 5 days. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother and a sister, Jewel Mae Martin.
David is survived by his wife, Jo Anna Martin, of the home; three sons, Glenn Leon and Frances Martin, Cleveland, OK, Alvin Dean and Misty Martin, Deriter, LA and Robert B. Martin, Cleveland, OK; two grandchildren, Alisha Martin, Diriter, Louisiana and Sierra Martin, Mannford, Oklahoma; mother, Helena Martin, Cleveland, OK; two brothers, Harold D. and Anna Marie Martin, Edmond, OK and Jimmy D. and Carol Martin, Washington; a sister, Edith and L.C. Treece, Cleveland, OK; ; and two step grandchildren, Tracy Monforte, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Joseph Monforte, Cleveland, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, September 23, 2002 at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel in Cleveland with Dakota Rush officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
