Daniel Lynn Rathbun, 73, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at his home in Hominy, Oklahoma

Daniel was born July 22, 1949, in Levelland, Texas to Horace Tom Rathbun and Mary Ellen (Trueblood) Rathbun. Dan grew up in Hobbs, New Mexico. Dan attended and graduated from Hobbs High School, (Go Eagles). After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968 and served until 1972 spending time in Vietnam. Daniel was discharged with the rank of E5. After the military Dan worked in the oil and gas industry, as well as welding, carpentry and often spoke fondly of the time working in a gold mine in Georgia. Later in life Dan attended the University of the Southwest, receiving a bachelor’s degree, and proceeded to work as a vocational rehab counselor until retirement.

Dan was a man of many hobbies and found joy in reloading ammunition, lapidary (making jewelry) work, arrowhead making, ceramics/potter and recently started taking up competitive rifle shooting. Dan was a lifetime member of the NRA. Dan greatly enjoyed all his hobbies and made it a point to have a hobby connected with each of his grandchildren. Dan loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him.

Daniel is survived by his daughter Amanda, and husband Matt Aldridge. Daughter in law Jessica Rathbun. Grandchildren Ian Aldridge, Gregory Aldridge and wife Kelsie, Delaney Aldridge, Jack and Kimberly Rathbun. Great-Grandchildren Everleigh and Steven Aldridge. He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Mary Rathbun, brother Curtis Rathbun, and his son Patrick Keane Rathbun.

Graveside service will be 11:00am, Friday, June 30, 2023, at the AJ Powell Memorial Cemetery Pavilion in Hominy, Oklahoma. Arrangements have been made by Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Cleveland, Oklahoma.
