Corwin (Corky) Eugene Forbes of Mannford, OK passed from this life on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Cleveland Area Hospital at the age of 90 years. Corky was born May 29, 1930 at Webster, South Dakota to James Lee and Bertha Marie (Sorenson) Forbes. Corky was united in marriage to Beverly Louise Syverson at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Havana, North Dakota on July 22, 1951. They started their life together in Webster, followed by moves to different towns in Minnesota, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arizona, and finally back to Oklahoma. Corky landed a job with Braniff International Airways at the beginning of the marriage and pursued the job he loved around the country until the organization finally went bankrupt a second time after his 37 years of service.
Corky had a myriad of hobbies during his long lifetime. His favorites seemed to be leatherworking, scuba diving, and an artistic talent that was reflected in multiple ways. His greatest passion was his faith in Jesus Christ and his undying love for the program of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). He recently celebrated 55 years of continuous sobriety, a feat that is only too rare. Corky loved to work with new people coming into AA to help them become established and spent the last 55 years doing God’s work to help people that suffered from alcoholism. His misery, his own earlier alcoholism, became his ministry! Corky shared recovery and most importantly his faith, to thousands of men and women over the years. His final hobby was an online ministry supplying these same people with biblical verses and articles and AA historical articles. He gave of himself until his eyes closed for the final time. Corky now enjoys his final wish, to be back in the arms of his one and only love, Beverly, for eternity.
Corky is survived by his children – Jacqueline Louise Caldwell of Sand Springs, OK; Catherine Marie Mathewson of Hereford, AZ; Richard Eugene Forbes of Cleveland, OK; and Timothy Allan Forbes of Lee’s Summit, MO. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. Corky was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, twin sisters, and the love of his life, Beverly.
Memorial services for Corky will be held for the family at 2:00 pm Friday, October 30, 2020 at the pavilion in the Woodland Cemetery, Cleveland, OK with Pastor David Head officiating. The service will be live-streamed at www.chapman-black.com for anyone that is not family that wishes to watch the service. We respectfully request that anyone attending the memorial wears a mask. Services and cremation were entrusted to the Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Cleveland, OK.
