Cora Jane Clements, a lifetime resident of Hominy was born February 28, 1913 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Cora was the eldest of six children born to David Sebe and Orpha (Rigsby) Corday. When Cora was a young child the family moved to the Hominy Area. Cora was raised and received her education in Hominy where she later graduated. She was united in marriage to Floyd Hampton Clements in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on December 24, 1930. After their marriage they made their home in Osage County where they raised their two children Wade and Jean. They remained in the Pawhuska and the Hominy area where Floyd was employed by several different ranches including The Charlie Franks Ranch, The Drummond Family Ranch as well as the Mullendore Cross Bell Ranch.
Cora began working as a Nurses Aid at the Hominy Nursing Home. She was also employed at the Cleveland Nursing Home as well as the Cleveland Area Hospital. Cora soon quit working as a nurse to take care of her husband Floyd due to his failing health. After the death of her husband Floyd, Cora began working at the Hominy Sale Barn doing different jobs and was also one of the Cooks in the late 1970Ãs. After working at the Sale Barn Cora retired. Following her retirement Cora began doing what she loved; making crafts, sewing, fishing, traveling and reading periodicals.
After CoraÃs home was destroyed by fire on December 2, 2002 she moved in with her son and daughter in law Wade and Carol. At that time she became a big part of Wade, Carol, David Bevard and his daughter RavynÃs everyday life. This gave them the opportunity to give back to Cora what she had given to them for so many years. At that time Ravyn got her first experience of nursing. She loved to wait on her Grandma Cora and make sure she was doing well. Anytime she would fall Ravyn would make Grandma Cora comfortable until help would arrive.
One of CoraÃs most memorable vacations that she always spoke about was one that included visiting Corpus Christi, Texas, Padre Island, then into Old Mexico and finished in Colorado with her daughter Jean and family. She also loved to make her crafts at the Indian Agency in Pawhuska as well as the Hominy Senior Citizens.
On Monday night March 14, 2005 in Cleveland, Oklahoma Cora passed away at the age of 92 years and 16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd on May 10, 1970, two brothers Sebe and Charles Corday as well as three sisters Ethel Files, Molly Stubbs and Cinda Duncan.
