Coeta Reve Robinson was born February 20, 1912 in Nowata, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Charles Clifford and Annie Catherine Coonrad. She moved with her family at an early age to the Jennings area where her father worked in the oilfields of northeastern Oklahoma and her mother ran cafÈ's in the area. She was raised in Jennings and attended school there, graduating from Jennings High School in 1929.
After graduating from high school, Coeta was married to Walter Carpenter. Walter and Coeta made their home in Jennings and had two children, Shirley and Louella. After the couple's divorce, Coeta was later married to Charles Melvin Robinson. They followed pipeline work throughout the United States during the depression and into the years following World War II. Charles preceded her in death on March 10, 1967.
Having spent all of her married life as a devoted wife and mother, taking care of all of her family's needs, Coeta began a career as a pastry chef after the death of her husband. In 1967 she accepted a position with Oklahoma State University working in the cafeteria kitchen of Bennett Hall in Stillwater. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family; she was famous for her cobblers. One of her favorite cobblers was an apple, cherry, pineapple combination. Upon her retirement from Oklahoma State University in 1977, Coeta accepted a position with the City of Jennings where she continued to work until 1992.
In addition to her love for cooking, Coeta enjoyed sewing and fishing. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over seventy-seven years. Additionally, Coeta was a member of the Church of God in Tulsa. She was know by her family as a kind an loving mother and grandmother with an intense desire to be in control.
In addition to her husband, Charles, Coeta was preceded in death by a daughter, Louella Ann Ballenger; great grandson, Brian K. Page; great great granddaughter, Kaylee N. Hamner; grandson, Steven Bevel; brother, Harold and his wife, Arleta "Pete" Coonrad; and an infant granddaughter.
Coeta passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the age of ninety-five years, eight months and twenty days. She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Shirley and Don Stevenson of Boise, Idaho; three granddaughters and their husbands, Linda and Jimmie Anglin of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Sharon and Steve Page of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Susan and Nile Hanlon of Jennings, Oklahoma; five grandsons, John Ballenger of Sacramento, California, Kevin Ballenger of Jennings, Oklahoma, David Bevel of Boise, Idaho, Mark Bevel of Boise, Idaho and Tim Bevel of Boise, Idaho; seventeen great-grandchildren; sixteen great great-grandchildren; two nieces, Connie Tate of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Trudy Nass of Memphis, Tennessee; one great niece; two great nephews; and a son-in-law, John T. Ballenger of Jennings, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel with Lawrence Gregory officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
