Clayton Leon Wallace went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at his home near Cleveland at the age of seventy-two. Clayton was born on December 15, 1940 in Mannford, Oklahoma. He was the son of Herman and Edna (Murr) Wallace. Clayton was raised and attended school in Mannford, graduating with the Class of 1959. After graduation from high school, Clayton attended the Central State University in Edmond for three semesters pursuing a degree in education which would allow him to coach football. Upon completion of his education, Clayton began a long career in the steel fabrication business, working for Flint Steel in Sand Springs assisting in the manufacturing of major units for gasoline plants including pressure vessels and heat exchangers. He was married to Frankie Peterman on October 27, 1961 at the home of Rev. Edward Zickefoose near Old Keystone. The couple had two daughters, Kelly and Darla and raised them in the Cleveland area. They made their home on the Peterman Place, near Old Highway 64, south of Westport, close to the town of Old Keystone. Clayton later accepted a position with Sheffield Steel and worked for the company for nearly thirty-two years before retiring in 2002. He continued to work as a fabricator at Sheffield Steel Sand Springs, a metal recycling company, assisting in the production of steel bar products from scrap metal. These products included rebar, hot rolled bar, billets, fence posts, and special shapes. Additionally, Clayton assisted with the day to day operation of the company in the office. Clayton was raised in the Assembly of God Church in Mannford where he accepted Christ as his personal savior. He later was baptized and joined the Westport Baptist Church in 1971. As a member of the Westport Baptist Church, Clayton served faithfully for many years as a young adult Sunday school teacher, a lay minister on occasion when the Pastor was gone, Sunday School Superintendent, and as a Deacon. He was an avid outdoorsman; spending many enjoyable times camping with his family. He also loved to garden, growing vegetables and flowers which he mainly gave away to family and friends. Clayton and Frankie also enjoyed traveling, taking trips all across the United States including Hawaii. Following his retirement, Clayton began woodworking as a hobby continuing to give away his creations including bird houses, shelving and picture frames from a variety of wood he found in the area. He could often be found in his recliner reading his bible. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Clayton was also an avid University of Oklahoma Football fan, having season tickets to Sooner games for many years. He loved all sports and many families activities evolved around them including trips to watch the Kansas City Royals play. Clayton was described by his family and friends as a Godly man who loved his Lord and Savior and his family. He was generous and helpful and truly believed it was better to give than receive.
