Clayton Eugene Fowler was born August 28, 1928, in Jennings, Oklahoma to William Robert and Rachel May (Watkins) Fowler. Clayton grew up in the Hallett, Oklahoma area where he attended school, Graduating May 24, 1946, from Hallett High School as the Salutatorian.
Clayton enlisted in the Air Force on December 2, 1950 and was later medically retired on November 30, 1955, with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked in electronics and ended his career as an avionics technician. During his time in the Air Force, he attended college and in 1957, he graduated with a BS from Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, Texas. The next year, he completed work on his Master of Education at Sam Houston State. After his Air Force career, Clayton worked for the FAA in Fort Worth, TX where he made his home.
Clayton got his private pilot’s license and bought a small plane which he loved to fly. He also bought a ski boat which he kept at Lake Worth where he would take his visiting nieces and nephews for entertainment. He was also an avid car enthusiast.
Even though he never married, Clayton was devoted to his family, taking care of his Mother and Father in a home he had built in Fort Worth across the street from his sister Leona. After the deaths of his parents, Clayton moved back to Cleveland, Oklahoma where he has lived for more than twenty years.
Clayton passed away March 1, 2016, at the age of 87 at the OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his father, William Robert Fowler; his mother, Rachel May Fowler; eight siblings, Dorothy Leona Revard, Wilburn Dee “Buster” Fowler, Clarence Melvin Fowler, Henry Alfred Fowler, William Harold Fowler, Omar Lee Fowler, Loyd Ralph Fowler and Betty Jo Grider.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, March 4, 2016, at the Bethany Cemetery, Hallett, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com.
