Charles Franklin Clanton was born August 31, 1925 in Big Spring, Texas the son of Joe Franklin and Maggie Ann (Hull) Clanton. The family later moved to the nearby town of Cahoma where he was raised and received his education. Charlie later graduated and then joined the U.S. Navy at the conclusion of World War II. After serving his country four years, Charlie was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy. Upon his return to the U.S.; Charlie moved to Texas where he worked several different odd before moving to Cleveland. While living in Cleveland, Charlie accepted a position with McDonnell Douglas in Tulsa. Mr. Clanton continued working there for several years before being laid off. In 1958, Charlie then gained employment at the R.E.A. He remained working until 1987 when he retired from the Indian Electric Cooperative. Even after his retirement Charlie still continued working as a handy man around town.
Charlie loved the time spent with his wife, daughter, grandchildren and friends. You could often find Mr. Clanton visiting with people at the Wal-Mart snack bar and most recently as well as McDonalds. Charlie was also a faithful member of the Western Heights Baptist Church and a good father and husband.
Charlie passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Clanton is survived by his loving wife of over 28 years Shirley Clanton; daughter Charla Sue Albright; two brothers Bill and Vernon; one sister Eva; three grandchildren Kimberly, Kailey and Kelsey Albright as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Monday, January 14, 2008 at the Western Heights Baptist Church with Rev. David Head officiating. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman Black Funeral Home.
