Cammie Butler Bishop

Florence Cammie Bishop was born July 8, 1920 near Sinnett, Oklahoma in rural Pawnee County. She was the daughter of Verazzani Columbus ''Raz'' and Oza Florence ''Ma'' Butler. She attended her early education at Sinnett School and then attended Cleveland schools in junior and senior high.

Shortly after the completion of her schooling, Cammie was married to Dalton A B Bishop in Pawnee, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Cleveland but moved to Los Angeles, California shortly before the start of World War ii, were A B was employed as a draftsman for North American Aircraft during the war. They returned to Cleveland in 1945 when A B accepted employment with Johnson Oil and Refinery. The couple had six children, Virginia, Erma, Carolyn, Delores, Leon and Paul. In addition to being a full time mother, Cammie worked as a clerk for the Wiles Grocery and later for Wayne Lawrence Grocery.

In 1963, they moved to Pasadena, Texas when A B was hired as supervisor of the Humane Department for the City of Pasadena. While residing in the Houston area, Cammie continued working in the grocery business as a clerk for Mucasey Grocery. They moved to Lake Livingston in 1978 and A B and Cammie became charter members of the Shoreline Baptist Church at Memorial Point in Livingston, Texas. The couple returned to Oklahoma in 1993 and moved to their home near Prue on Keystone Lake.

A B preceded her in death on September 26, 1995. Cammie was a faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma. She was a wonderful cook and especially enjoyed cooking for her family. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also had a special relationship with her sisters, who where affectionately known throughout the Cleveland area as the Butler girls. Cammie passed away on Monday, September 23, 2002 at the Cleveland Area Hospital at the age of eighty-two years, two months and fifteen days. In addition to her husband, Cammie was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Logan Butler in 1937 and William Butler in 1999; and three sisters, Blanche Garrison in 1980, Dona Demoia Bridwell in 2000 and Katherine Green in 2001. and a son, Leon Bishop on May 23, 1996.

She is survived by five children, Virginia and Jim Eastham, San Antonio, Texas, Erma and Richard Toothman, Prue, Oklahoma, Carolyn and David Rusco, Silver City, Oklahoma, Delores Hutto, Cleburne, Texas and Paul and Sonya Bishop, Van, Texas; daughter-in-law, Judy Bishop, Liberty, Texas; seventeen grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Maxine Griffin, Cleveland, Oklahoma, Willa Jo Stephens, Cleveland, Oklahoma and Charlene Curtis, Skiatook, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 26, 2002 at the First Baptist Church in Cleveland with Dr. Larry Wilson officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
