Brenda Sue Smith passed away from this life on December 11, 2024, at the age of 73 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Brenda was born on February 13, 1951, in Hominy, Oklahoma, the daughter of Oliver and Mamie (Alexander) Carl. Brenda grew up and attended school in Hominy, later completing her GED at Central Vo-Tech. Following high school, Brenda remained in Hominy and began working at the local diner. Brenda was united in marriage to Clarence "Buddy" Smith on March 17, 1972, in Hominy, Oklahoma. The couple established their initial home in Cleveland before moving to Hallett where they continued to reside. Brenda worked in Cleveland at Raggedy Ann Cafe and later at Howard Johnson Cafe on the Cimarron Turnpike. She also babysat numerous kids in the area.
Brenda was a member of the American Legion for 39 years. During that time, Brenda ran the kitchen and helped manage all things bingo. She also enjoyed helping host and put on music at the Legion. Brenda always enjoyed dancing. She could be found dancing in Terlton on Thursday nights, in Cushing, or at 308 on Friday nights. Brenda loved bingo and was always looking for somewhere new to play. She enjoyed casino nights with Buddy and going on cruises and vacations with her family.
Brenda was a member at Terlton Senior Center since 2009. She greeted people at the door with a big smile, an even bigger hug, and friendly conversation. Brenda volunteered for the center each month passing out food to those in need.
Brenda was a fabulous cook making pies, desserts, and noodles for everyone. Brenda loved singing oldies to grandkids and never missed the chance to dance to an Elvis song. Brenda had a heart of gold that often got her in trouble for picking up hitchhikers that she thought she knew, buying CDs out of the back of a trunk in shady areas of Memphis, or passing out money she didn't always have. Brenda gave as big as she loved, and that was a lot.
Survivors are her husband, Buddy; three children and their spouses: Zachary "Shane" Smith & Sarah Anaya, Amanda Smith, Noah and Alisha Smith; eight siblings: Bobby Gene Cooper, JoAnn Hughes, Patsy Dawson, Joie Ratliff, Bubbie Carl, Deanna Bohard, Mary Webb, Paula Potts; nine grandchildren and their spouses Lauren Smith, Ashley and Matthew Anderson, Michael Smith, Elizabeth and William Cartwright, Noah Smith, Christopher Smith, Anthony Smith, Shaylee Smith, Jeremiah Smith; thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives, friends, and numerous kids that called her "Grandma.". Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Oliver Carl; mother Mamie Carl; siblings: Carol Taylor, Sharon Garrison, Sonny Carl, and Jackie Cooper; and one child, Christopher Lee.
