Funeral services for Bobbie Jean Metzger will be held Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 10:00 am in the Sanctuary of the Nazarene Church with Rev. Carl Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery next to her husband Frank O. Metzger, Sr. under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
Bobbie was born January 9, 1932 in El Reno, Oklahoma the daughter of Edgar Malta and Gertrude (Ellis) Tinsley. At the age of 12, Bobbie, moved with her family to Hominy, Oklahoma. She attended school at Mound Valley. While attending school in Mound Valley she caught the eye of a young man returning from World War II by the name of Frank Oran Metzger, Sr. They soon fell in love and were united in marriage on May 26, 1948, in Hominy, Oklahoma. They made their initial home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They soon returned to Hominy and Frank was called to the service of his country during the Korean War. After the birth of their daughter Janis, Bobbie boarded a train and headed west to California to be closer to her husband that she loved dearly. At the conclusion of the Korean War they returned to Hominy. During this time their were two additions to the Metzger family; Frank, Jr. and David.
In 1974, Bobbie and Frank opened Metzger Tool and Supply that later became Metzger Oil Tools. She was very active in helping Frank run the day to day operations during the booming period of the oil industry. They later retired in 1996 and relinquished the day to day operations to their children.
Bobbie was a lady that had an eye for antiques. She was a dealer for many years purchasing and selling items out of her home. During this time she started every one of her children a collection of items that they will cherish forever. Bobbie continued dealing in antiques up until the last several years. Holidays were special times for Bobbie; she would spend countless hours making sure that each one of her children and grandchildren got the dessert of their choice. Bobbie was supportive and attended many of her childrenÃs and grandchildrenÃs athletic events as well as other school functions and programs that they were a part of. Bobbie and Frank loved to travel to Topeka, Las Vegas and Tunica. They would often invite friends and family to join them on their excursions. You could always count on one if not both of them returning with a huge smile of delight in anticipation of sharing what they had brought home. Bobbie has been attending the Nazarene Church in Hominy for many years living the Christian Life that she treasured and cherished.
Mrs. Metzger passed away Monday, September 17, 2007, at her home with her family at her side at the age of 75 years 8 months and 8 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank O. Metzger, Sr., one sister Bettie Endress and two brothers, Coy Tinsley and Bill Tinsley.
Survived by her daughter, Janis Horton and husband Dale of Hominy, Oklahoma; two sons, Frank Metzger, Jr. of Hominy, Oklahoma; Daivd Metzger and his wife Lisa of Hominy, Oklahoma; one sister, Nova Hotarie of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren, Robby, Troy, Katy, Josh, Jared, Rachel, Becky, Heidi, Mari, Billy and Amy; sixteen great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
