Billy Ray Starrett passed from this life on January 11, 2022, at the age of 93 in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
Bill was born on June 19, 1928, in Gypsy, Oklahoma the son of Charles Wesley and Lillie (Craig) Starrett. Bill grew up in Boston Pool later attended school in Cleveland where he graduated high school. During his time in high school Bill worked at the local cleaners running a press and delivering clothing. On November 30, 1949, Bill was united in marriage to the love of his life Mildred Louise Carriger. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Russell, Kansas where Bill began working at the dry cleaners. He later gained employment with Great Lakes Pipelines in Humbolt, Kansas beginning his career in the oil industry. In 1957, Bill and Mildred moved their family to Oklahoma residing in Cleveland while he worked at Dowell in Hominy. He soon accepted a position with Mid Continent driving the gang truck. They later merged with Sunray DX before Sunoco purchased them. Bill worked in Osage County and Pawnee County for many years before being transferred to the Drumright Station as a gauger. Bill retired from Sunoco in 1992 after 35 years of service.
Bill loved fishing and hunting. He spent many hours visiting with his friends at Joes in Hallett or the Hickory House in Cleveland. Bill always enjoyed going with his cousin Jerry Gaskins deer hunting in Slick, Oklahoma.
Survivors are his two sons Tom Starrett and his wife Karen of Cleveland, Oklahoma, David Starrett of Hallett, Oklahoma; twin sister Betty Robbins and Jerry of Wanette, Oklahoma; three grandchildren Christopher Starrett of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Amber Starrett of Hominy, Oklahoma, Toby Starrett and his wife Karie of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; six great grandchildren Paige, Preston, Naomi, Sydnee, Whitlee, Preslee and numerous other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Starrett, siblings Darrell Starrett, Wesley Starrett, Louise Huffines, Cleva Breckenridge, Charlene McWilliams and Barbara Carlyle.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 17, 2022, from 10:00 am till 7:00 pm at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Private burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
