Funeral services for Bill Foster Cox, will be held on Monday, 2:00 pm at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
Bill was born on September 28, 1929, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the son of Albert and Oma Cox. Bill was raised in Tulsa later graduating from Will Rogers High School. Following graduation Bill enrolled at Oklahoma A & M. He later joined the United States Air Force as an Aviation Cadet. Upon the completion of his training Bill transitioned into flying T-33’s. He later began flying P-51’s, and the transitioned to the F84G. Bill was a part of the Strategic Air Command. First Lieutenant Bill Cox was honorably discharged on June 20, 1955. Bill returned to the Tulsa Area and later moved to Cleveland and purchased Fogle Motor with his brother Bob. The two operated Cox Pontiac-Gmc as well as a Lonestar Boat and Evinrude dealership until 1976. Following the sale of the dealership Bill purchased 80 acres west of Cleveland. At that time he and Islarae moved to the farm. The farm was a place of peace for Bill, you could often find him reading at the pond for hours at a time. Bill began worked at Wheatley Pump and then later for Osage Oil until his retirement.
Bill loved car racing. He raced cars in the late 40’s and later in the early 1970’s at many local events. During his time racing he met the love of his life Islarae. The two were united in marriage in 1978. Weekends usually were spent with his family. During the time his children were growing up it was at the lake on the house boat. He loved getting together with family and going to his grandkids events.
Bill passed away at his home Friday, October 23, 2015, at the age of eighty-six years and twenty-six days.
Survivors are his children Gary and Debbie Cox, Bob and Tracy Cox, Donna and JR Wilcoxson of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Steven Dale Ford of Cleveland, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren Nicole, Cassie, Courtney, Erick, Jennifer, Preston, Bryce; five great grandchildren Avery, Ashlynn, Alivia Cox, Rilyn, Zaven Stringfellow and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bob Cox, cousin Gilbert Turley who was raised with him.
