Betty Lou House, Cotton Valley resident since 1975, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the Meadowview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Minden, Louisiana, at the age of seventy-eight years, two months and seven days.
Betty was born June 30, 1928 in Oklahoma. She was the adopted daughter of Frank Eli and Bertha Mary (Peck) Miller. Betty was raised and attended school in Cleveland, Oklahoma, graduating from Cleveland High School in 1945.
Just prior to graduation from high school, Betty was married to Everett Doward House on March 28, 1945 in Hominy, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Cleveland for nearly thirty years as Doward worked for Johnson Oil Refinery and then Kerr-McGee until the refinery closed in 1975. The couple had one son, Everett Doward House II, known as Corky. While residing in Cleveland, Betty was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church.
In 1975, when Doward was relocated with the Kerr-McGee Company, the couple moved to Cotton Valley, Louisiana. Doward preceded Betty in death on August 19, 1996 after fifty-one years of marriage. Betty continued to reside in Cotton Valley until recently for health reasons she moved to the Meadowview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Minden. Betty's hobbies included traveling and visiting. She also enjoyed shopping, although she would often shop all day without purchasing anything.
Betty is survived by her son and his wife, Everett Doward House II Corky and Donna; two grandchildren, Everett Doward House III, of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Keri Dawn House of Cleveland, Oklahoma; three great-grandchildren, Kiera House of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Trey Allen House of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Garrett Austin House of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, September 8, 2005 at the Bailey Mortuary in Cotton Valley, Louisiana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 10, 2005 at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel in Cleveland, Oklahoma with Rev. George Boston officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
