Betty L. Davis

Betty L. Davis went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at her home in Cleveland at the age of eighty-four years, four months and three days.

Betty was born on September 15, 1922 in Griffin, Georgia. She was the daughter of Lester M. and Ida Mae Carver. Betty was raised and received her education in Griffin.

Betty was united in marriage to L. A. Friday Davis on June 29, 1941 in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The couple made their home in Cleveland, Oklahoma where they raised their four children, Frank, Linda, Denise and Darla. From 1955 until 1965, Betty assisted Friday in the daily operation of L. A. Davis Construction Company as secretary and bookkeeper.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She received the most enjoyment out of life taking care of her family. She was the leader of the Davis family and was described as the one who carried the ball all the time. She especially enjoyed preparing family dinners and spending time with them. She spent countless hours canning vegetables that Friday grew in their garden. One of her favorite hobbies was roller skating. She was also a handy repair person and could fix nearly anything that was broken.

Betty was a longtime faithful member of the First Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, assisted as a cook at the youth's annual summer camp at Falls Creek, was actively involved with WMU (Baptist Women's Organization) and often assisted with GA's (Girls in Action). She was always available to her church family whenever she was needed. Her love for Jesus was displayed in her daily walk and was evident in the smile she always exhibited, even when her health was deteriorating. Her quiet demeanor and wonderful loving personality will be missed by all those who knew her. She was truly a remarkable Christian woman whose love for those around her was evident in everything she did and she could easily be described as the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31: 10-31.

Betty is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Friday of the home; a son and his wife, Frank and Cindy Davis of Cleveland, Oklahoma, a daughter and her husband, Linda and Leonard Davidson of Cleveland, Oklahoma, a daughter, Denise Norrid of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Adam Davis, Jason Davis, Trey Davidson, Tracy Cheek, Clint Davidson, Jacob Davidson, Rachael Cortes, Josh Norrid and Kyle Norrid; twelve great-grandchildren, Maya Davis, Lila Davis, Tyler Davidson, Seth Davidson, Coleson Cheek, Jaden Cheek, Conner Davidson, Isaiah Cortes, Isaac Cortes, Noah Cortes, Kainan Cortes and Brant Norrid; and three sisters, Anne Snow of Jonesboro, Georgia, Pat Moore of Griffin, Georgia and Virginia Masters of Cleveland, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by parents; brother, Charles Carver; sister, Mildred McClammy and a daughter, Darla Dean Davis Green.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 20, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Cleveland with Dr. Larry Wilson and Rev. George Boston officiating. Musical selections will be provided by Dorothea Hendricks and Linda Carnes. Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Davis, Jason Davis, Trey Davidson, Clint Davidson, Jacob Davidson, Josh Norrid and Kyle Norrid. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
