Betty Joyce Simmons

Betty was born on June 22, 1935, in Post, Texas the daughter of Bert and Lala (Hull) Byrd. Betty attended school and grew up in Post, Texas. Following high school Betty met the love her life Lee Roy Simmons at a local dance in Post. They were later united in marriage on August 21, 1954, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. The couple established their initial home in Coweta, Oklahoma later moving to Bakersfield, California. In 1970 Betty and Lee returned to Oklahoma making their once again in Coweta. In 1977, Betty and Lee moved to Cleveland, and she accepted a position as the store manager at the Gas N Go for Osage Oil.

Betty enjoyed playing music, fishing and attending church. Betty enjoyed working and spending time at the Cleveland Senior Citizens. She helped serve and prepare the Portable Meals on Wheels for those not able to get out. Betty was instrumental getting the dances and Thursday jam sessions in Cleveland. She also worked numerous elections for the election board. Betty was member of the Red Hat Ladies, Brazeal Nut Group and bowled many years on a league in California, Tulsa and Hominy. Betty has been a longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene, mission president and Sunday school teacher.

Survivors are children Johnny and Terry Simmons of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Ronnie and Lori Simmons of Cleveland, Oklahoma, stepdaughter Judy DiMiceli of California, daughter in law Melody Simmons of Prue, Oklahoma; two siblings Gladys Hinson of Spur, Texas, Ruth Pankey of Coweta, Oklahoma; four grandchildren Michael Simmons, Misty Maxwell, Justin Simmons, Jennifer Sarant; seven great grandchildren Carson, Lilly, Abby, Raelyn, Layla, Kynlee, Asher and a host of other relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Bert and Lala Byrd, father Floyd Bryd, husband Lee, sister Dorothy Horton, and a brother Gene Byrd.

Services will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at the Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Steve Brown and Michelle Proctor officiating. Family has requested memorial donations be made in honor of Betty to the Cleveland Senior Citizens or the Portable Meals on Wheels. Burial will be held in the Woodland Cemetery at Cleveland, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
