Betty Eloise Mullins, lifelong Osage/Pawnee County resident, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2005 at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of seventy-nine years, eight months and twenty-five days.

Betty was born on September 4, 1925 in Blackburn, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Guy Samuel and Thelma Inez Jones. Betty received her early childhood education in Cleveland and then moved frequently with her family during the next several years, finally settling and then graduating from Phillips High School near Borger, Texas.

While residing in Borger, Betty met Royce Stephens and the couple was married in 1942. When Royce was inducted in the United States Army, Betty returned to the Cleveland area awaiting Mr. Stephens discharge from military service, Tragically, Royce was killed in action in an airplane accident during World War II in 1945.

Later Betty met and was married to L. Gordon Smith. The couple made their home in Cleveland during most of their marriage. For many years, she assisted Gordon in the operation of the APCO service station in Cleveland on west Caddo.

Betty also worked as a hairdresser for many years and then was employed as an instructor at the Cleveland Cosmetology School for nearly three years. She later purchased and operated the Hominy Hotel for a few years.

Betty was married to Ira Charles Mullins on December 6, 1973 in Hominy, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Cleveland for several years until after the death of Charles parents when they returned to the family home in Osage County. Charles preceded her in death on January 18, 2000.

Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Gold Star Wives of America. A non-profit membership organization, chartered by the U.S. Congress as a unique organization to provide support to anyone whose spouse died while on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces or died from a service-related disability. Additionally, she was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi and also enjoyed playing bridge. Her favorite pastime, however, for many years was dancing.

Betty was preceded in death by all three husbands, her parents and a brother Guy Samuel Jones, Jr. She is survived by a son and his wife, Larry M. and Pat Stephens, Cleveland, OK; two daughters and their spouse, Tonda J. and John Lavanovich, Bethany, OK and Meleaia L. and Reuben DeRoin, Hominy, OK; five grandchildren, Stefanie Osborne, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Derek Stephens, Firestone, Colorado, Pax Rolfe, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dedra Parsons, Mustang, Oklahoma and Batt DeRoin, Hominy, Oklahoma; four great-grandchildren, Tanner and Ravyn Osborne, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Hunter Stephens, Firestone, Oklahoma and Alex DeRoin, Hominy, Oklahoma; three step grandsons, Todd Doss, Lake City, Florida, Shawn Sloan, Guthrie, Oklahoma and Corey Sloan, Greenville, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 3, 2005 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. Blessing Yap officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
