Bertha Lou Cauthon

Bertha Lou Bingham Cauthon was born February 3, 1952 in Jay, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Arthur Pershing and Ethel Eva (Drake) Bingham. Bertha was raised and attended school in Jay, completing her education in 1970. Bertha joined the Peace Core in 1970 and served two years before attending Oklahoma State University. She was married to Robert Cauthon on January 18, 1975 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Bertha later attended Platt College where she earned a degree in Interior Design and then operated a company, Interior Rising, for several years. Bertha enjoyed reading, painting and sewing. She loved to garden; both vegetable and flower and spent countless hours tending to her garden. She was also actively involved with the Red Hat Society, a global society of women that supports and encourages women in their pursuit of fun, friendship, freedom, fulfillment, and fitness. She was a member of a local chapter in this area known as the Outlanders. Bertha designed and hand crafted custom dresses for the entire membership. Bertha also loved animals especially dogs and had owned a very special schnauzer at one time and two very lovely Alaskan Huskies. She searched for almost two years after her dogs disappeared. Bertha was described by her family as a very outgoing and intelligent lady that was compassionate and fiercely independent. She was a Days of Our Lives fan and watched the program daily. She also loved 60ís and 70ís rock and roll music and enjoyed singing. She was also an avid University of Oklahoma Sooner football fan. Bertha passed from this life, on Friday, September 23, 2011 at the Cleveland Area Hospital at the age of fifty-nine after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Ethel Bingham. Bertha is survived by her husband, Robert Cauthon of the home near Cleveland, Oklahoma; two sons, Charles Christopher Cauthon of the home and Robert Samuel Cauthon of Kinston, North Carolina; daughter, Brooklyn Faith Cauthon of the home; grandson, Robert Samuel Cauthon of Kinston, North Carolina; granddaughter, Anna Grace Cauthon of Kinston, North Carolina; three sisters, Sandra Perdue of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Jessie Felmlee of Cleveland, Oklahoma, and Ava Rush of Grove, Oklahoma; brother, Arthur Duane Bingham of Lake City, Michigan; sister-in-law, Linda Sue Huffaker of Houston, Texas; and her father-in-law, Virgil A. Cauthon of Ponca City, Oklahoma . Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Earley officiating. A committal service will be held at the Hope Chapel in the IOOF Cemetery in Ponca City at 3:00 pm with Rev. Ken Newport officiating. Burial will be under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
