Barbara Lee Ellen Smith was born March 8, 1944 in Hominy, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Harvey William and AnnaLee (Bishop) Smith. Barbara was raised and attended school in Hominy, graduating from Hominy High School in 1962. Upon graduation from high school, Barbara accepted employment with Tulsa Linen for a couple of years. She later relocated to Dallas, Texas were she began working for a surgical supply company and then returned to Tulsa when she accepted employment with Tulsa Screw Products. She was employed by Tulsa Screw Products for nearly fifteen years in the accounting department as a payroll and accounts payable clerk. In the early 1990Ãs, Barbara began working for AMACO, serving as an account representative to down stream customers and the products sold to them. The company sold to British Petroleum and later to Price Waterhouse Cooper and Barbara continued to work as a client services manager. The company was then purchased by IBM and Barbara continued providing data management services to gasoline companies until her retirement in April of 2011. Barbara accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and has been a member of the Berean Baptist Church in Tulsa for many years. She was described by her family as a sister that made friends easily and was always the life of the party and loved by everyone. She was generous, straight forward and loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family with all her heart. Barbara loved to read, especially mystery novels, and also loved to knit. She enjoyed visiting Corpus Christi and San Antonio in Texas and traveling with her family. She loved listening to Yanni and old time rock and roll music. Her favorite pastime, however, was spending time with her siblings and their families. Barbara passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of sixty-eight. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey William and AnnLee Smith; and an infant daughter, Lee Ellen. She is survived by two sisters, Patricia Ann and Don LaCrone of Hominy, Oklahoma and Laurel April and Richard Ely of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; brother, Harvey and Laverne Smith of Cleveland, Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews; and other family and friends that mourn her passing. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Chapman-Black Chapel with Rev. Greg Jones officiating. Following cremation, interment will be at the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Friends may share a memory with the family at the funeral home or online at www.chapman-black.com.
