Ava Bell Kizer

Ava Belle. Kizer, a resident of Jennings was born August 24, 1926 in Bernice, Oklahoma to Denver C. and Mary Ann (Hodge) Ballenger. As a young girl Ava moved with her parents from Bernice to Hallett at the age of 11. They later moved to Jennings, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school. On November 26, 1945, Ava was united in marriage to James ìHowardî Kizer. They established their initial home Ft. Belvar, Virginia while Mr. Kizer was in the U.S. Army. In 1947, they returned to Jennings, Oklahoma and at that time Ava began working in the local restaurants. Mr. and Mrs. Kizer later moved to Tulsa. Ava accepted a position with the Tulsa Osteopathic Hospital in the cafeteria. While working at the hospital she also began nursing school. In 1963 they returned to the Jennings area and in 1964, Mrs. Kizer accepted a employment with Munsingwear as a seamstrees. Ava continued to work there until her retirement in 1982. She then returned to the food service industry at Jís CafÈ in Jennings and in 1990 she accepted a position as a inspector at Allegiance Pharmaceuticals in Mannford. Mrs. Kizer continued to work there until 2000.

Mrs. Kizer enjoyed being with her family. She also loved spending time in Colorado as well as Montana visiting her family. Ava was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Ava went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at her home in Jennings, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years 2 months and 17 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James ìHowardî Kizer in 1999, one sister Viola Mae Cox and a infant daughter Alretta Sue Kizer.

Surviving are her daughter Charlotte and husband Charles Hixson; son James Wayne and wife Dina Kizer; daughter, Nancy Kilpatrick all of Jennings, Oklahoma; son, John Howard Kizer of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sister, Sarah ìIreneî Daniel of Jennings, Oklahoma; brother Jimmy and wife Diane Ballenger of Jennings, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday; November 14, 2007 at 2:00 pm in the Jennings Cemetery Chapel with Chaplain Gladena Alred officiating. Burial will be at the Jennings Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
