Anna Mae Collins

Anna Mae (Rogers) Collins of Cleveland, Oklahoma passed away on March 23, 2017 at the Beacon Hill Care Center in Denison, TX at the age of 91.

Anna was born August 29, 1925 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. She was one of eight children of Martin Jacob and Mary Melissa Iza Dora (Lay) Rogers. Like the other Rogers kids she grew up at the Cleveland brick yard where her dad Martin worked for many years. Anna had two boys from her first marriage with Ted Loyd Johnson, Paul Lee and Lynn Wayne. She later married Junior Neal Collins in 1973.

Anna attended school in Cleveland and worked as a telephone switch board operator from 1948 to 1950 and from 1958 to 1960. In 1960 Anna moved to Pottsboro, TX and in 1965 she went to work as a telephone operator at Perrin Air Force Base until the base closed in 1971. She moved back to Cleveland in 1971 and went to work for the General Services Administation office in Tulsa until it closed in 1983.

Anna’s home was at Alto Acres just south of Cleveland near Lake Keystone for 40 years. She quilted many quilts for her family as well as for people in and around Cleveland. She was always busy with something whether it was sewing, painting, upholstering, crafting, gardening, and working in the yard. We loved seeing the many things she created. Due to declining health of both Anna and Neal they moved to Denison, TX in May 2014 to be closer to Anna’s son Lynn and his wife Barbara and two granddaughters.

Survivors are her son Lynn and his wife Barbara of Denison, TX, four grandchildren Samantha Johnson, Jennifer Hensley, Jodi Castelli, Kimberly Johnson, and ten great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by husband Junior Neal Collins, her son Paul Lee Johnson, three grandsons Martin, Timothy and Billy, four sisters Mildred Kilgore, Lucreta Wilson, Mary Welch, Colleen Bell and three brothers O.B. Rogers, Wallace Rogers and Glen Rogers.
