Andrew Steven Hammond better known to his friends and family as Andy; passed from this life on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at his home in Cleveland, Oklahoma at the age of 60 years three months and nine days. Andy was born in Lewistown, Pennsylvania on January 5, 1952. He was the son of Arthur and Betty (Albright) Hammond. As a young child Andy grew up in the Orbisonia, Pennsylvania area as well as living in North Dakota before moving with his family to McAlester, Oklahoma when he was in the 10th grade. During his time in high school Andy excelled in sports and graduated with the Class of 1970 from McAlester High School. Andy received a scholarship to the University of Tulsa for his abilities in football. Andy lettered for the University of Tulsa playing football and helped his team finish 1st in the Missouri Valley Conference his senior year. Following graduation in 1974, and receiving his bachelorÃs degree, Andy began working as a Senior Assistant Football coach for the University of Tulsa. He later accepted employment with Tulsa Public Schools from 1975 till 1976 as a teacher. On April 5, 1975, Andy was united in marriage to his high school sweet heart Mary Elizabeth (Gramlich) in McAlester, Oklahoma. After their marriage the couple established their initial home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Andy was employed with Wilmco Mud and Chemical Company as a Mud Engineer and sales representative. In 1979, Andy opened his own company Hammond Mud Company which he operated until he moved to El Paso, Texas. At that time he accepted a position at Hanks High School and Ysleta Junior High as the physical education and Texas history teacher. He was also the football, basketball and track assistant coach. After several years in Texas, Andy moved his family back to Owasso and gained employment once again with Tulsa Public School as the Assistant football coach at Booker T. Washington. In 1992, Andy accepted employment with Ellsworth Motor Freight Line as the regional sales and operations manager. In 1998, Andy and Beth moved to Cleveland. Andy remained with Ellsworth until 1999, when he began working with Transwood, Inc. as their district sales manager. Andy continued working for Transwood until he began his own endeavor TPA Trading Company in 2009. At that time Andy began brokering asphalt oils and other additives for companies in the region which he operates with his son Trey. Andy loved to hunt, work in his garden and be with his family. Most of the summer vacations revolved around his family and summer league sporting events. They would travel to many places following and cheering their sons in their activities. Andy also loved to spend time with his family at Grand Lake. One of the most memorable family vacations was to Cloudcroft, New Mexico. Everyone that met Andy loved him. He was especially loved by his children's friends. Andy is described as a confident, strong, wonderful and family oriented man. He was his familyÃs rock, hero, mentor as well as best friend to his kids and wife. Andy was his kidÃs number one supporter and fan Survivors are his Beth of the home, Andrew C. Hammond of Cleveland, Oklahoma and his two children Kamyn and Oscar Hammond; Jake Hammond and his wife Samantha of Edmond, Oklahoma and their Children Kaitlyn and Preslie Hammond, Trey Hammond and Ashley Kubecka and their son Jack Hammond; two brothers Thomas A. Price and his wife Marcie of Las Vegas, Nevada, Arthur F. Hammond of McAlester, Oklahoma, one sister Martha A. Fields and her husband Kenneth of McAlester, Oklahoma . He was preceded in death by father Arthur Hammond, mother Betty Hammond (Albright), one brother Daniel P. Hammond. Rosary services will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at 7:30 PM in the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, April 19, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Bruce Brosnahan officiating. Following the services the family will host a reception at their home. Services are under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
