Amanda Juanita Welch

Amanda Juanita Welch was born October 3, 1916 in rural Caddo County, Oklahoma; she was the daughter of Luther and Rosetta May (Anthony) Carter. She moved with her family at the age of four to the Barnsdall area and then to Avant shortly thereafter. She received her education in the Avant school system. After completion of her education, Juanita was married to Allen Edward Welch on January 8, 1935 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Wildhorse and resided there for the first thirteen years of their marriage. The couple had four children Flora Ozel, Thomas Edward, Norma Jean and John Edward. In 1943 the couple began moving several times over the next thirty-years, throughout Kansas and Texas. While in Texas, Juanita worked as a manager of a mobile home park in Perryton, Texas and also operated a Spudnut Shop in Pampa, Texas for several years. Juanita moved to Cleveland in1972. She also worked for many years as a seamstress at the Munsingwear Plant in Hominy. Juanita was an amazing and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was described by her family as strong and dependable and always there for anyone in need. Her granddaughters considered her the original lady that could ìbring home the bacon and fry it up in the pan;î expressing that there wasnít anything that Granny couldnít do. She loved cooking and was known for her pineapple fluff cake and candy at Christmas. Additionally, Juanita loved the outdoors and really enjoyed hunting and fishing. One of her favorite pastimes was crocheting and she also liked to cook and sew. . She accepted Jesus Christ as her Personal Savior as a young lady and has followed his example her entire life. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Cleveland. Juanita went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of ninety-two. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Rosetta May Carter; her husband, Allen Edward Welch; a daughter, Floral Ozel Welch Blue; a son, Thomas Edward Welch; two brothers, Edd Carter and Everett Carter; and two sisters, Bertha Mehagen and Kathleen Foote. She is survived by her daughter,Norma Jean Morgan of Perryton, Texas; a son, John Edward Welch of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two sisters, Ethel Jane Carter Simmons of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Nora Genieve Carter Estes of Cleveland, Oklahoma; a brother, Daniel Thelbert Gene Carter of Cleveland, Oklahoma; eighteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, September 11, 2009 at the First Assembly of God Church in Cleveland, with Pastor Dan Edens officiating. Burial will be at the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
