Alma Jane (Smith) Martin was born July 11, 1910 in Cedar Creek, Missouri. She was the daughter of John W. and Edna Pearl Smith. Alma passed away on Friday, January 17, 2003 at the Tulsa Regional Medical Center at the age of ninety-two years, six months and six days.

Alma was raised and received her education in Cedar Creek, Missouri. She moved with her family to the Cleveland area at the age of eighteen in 1928. She was residing in Osage when close to Thanksgiving in 1929, Alma met Loy ''Shorty'' Martin. The couple was engaged around Christmas and then married on February 12, 1930 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. They made their initial home in the Wild Horse area and resided in Osage and Prue before moving to Cleveland when their daughter, Lorene, was nine In the early days of their marriage, the couple farmed an acreage on which they raised cotton and other crops Although she was primarily a homemaker during their marriage, Alma was always there beside Shorty helping him in any way she could. Shorty often said he had married an Angel.

Alma loved everyone and her loving personality warmly embraced her friends and family. She would spend countless hours visiting with her friends. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, however, the love of her life was Shorty, her husband of nearly seventy-three years.

The couple spent many enjoyable times together, fishing and camping. Alma also liked to quilt but especially loved to cook. She also enjoyed making a garden. She was a faithful member of the Western Heights Baptist Church. She assisted the church for many year with funeral and special church dinners.

Alma is survived by her husband , Loy ''Shorty'' Martin, of the home; a daughter and her husband, Lorene and Paul Atteberry, Cleveland, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Paulette Weaver, Cushing, Oklahoma, Freda and her husband, Dale Gordon, Mannford, Oklahoma, Paul Lee Atteberry, Cleveland, Oklahoma, Pam Williams, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Cindy and her husband, Jeff McCrakin, Mannford, Oklahoma; eleven great grandchildren, fourteen great great-grandchildren, a sister and her husband, Marie and Lex Witt, Duncan, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Almus, Melvin, Gordon and Charles Smith; and one grandson, Tony Weaver.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, January 20, 2003 at the Western Heights Baptist Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma with Rev. David Head and Rev. Edward Zickefoose officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
