Alma Dean Swanson was born July 18, 1927 in Lincoln, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Ira Lewis and Elisie Hulet. She moved with her family at an early age to Osage, Oklahoma where she was raised and attended school. Alma graduated from Osage High School in 1946 as her class valedictorian.
Upon graduation from high school, Alma attended Draughon School of Business in Tulsa for a couple of years. She was married to Robert A. Swanson on October 1, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Tulsa and then relocated a few times during the next few years to Sarcuse, Kansas, Lamar, Colorado and then settling in Haxtun, Colorado for nearly fifteen years. The couple had three children, Jeffery, Gregory and Saundra. While residing in Colorado, Alma obtained her Associate Degree from North East Junior College in Sterling, Colorado where she was honored by being on the Dean's List.
The couple returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1969 and Alma accepted employment with the Fotomat Company as Area Manager. She was later employed by Read's Department Store where she has worked until recently. Alma was always extremely devoted to her work. Robert, her husband of nearly thirty years preceded her in death on June 4, 1978, In addition to her husband, Alma was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Berlin, Jack and Ira.
Alma passed away in Norman, Oklahoma Tuesday April 2, 2002 at the age of 74 years 8 months and 14 days.
Alma is survived by her two sons, Jeffery Swanson, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Gregory and his wife, Laetitia Swanson of Dietzenbach, Germany; daughter, Saundra Myers, Norman, Oklahoma; sister, Norma Dixon, Hominy, Oklahoma; and two grandchildren, Danielle Nicole Swanson, Tahlaquah, Oklahoma and Jeremy Robert Swanson of Dietzenbach, Germany.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, April 8, 2002 at the Chapel of Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Robert Prater officiating. Burial will be at the Osage Cemetery in Osage under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
