Alice Sue (Stroud) Wilkins, 86, passed from this life on January 18, 2020, in Cushing, Oklahoma with her daughters by her side. Born on October 10, 1933, at the family home in Blackburn, Oklahoma, Alice is the daughter of George Taylor and Della Mary (Madewell) Stroud. She attended school in Bowlegs, Blackburn, then graduated from Cleveland High School in 1951. After graduation, Alice moved to California and went to work in the lettuce fields outside Salinas, California. Later, she returned to Cleveland, working as a waitress. Alice met Raymond Eugene Wilkins of Terlton, Oklahoma and the couple was wed on November 21, 1953. From this union came two daughters, Sherlynn and Teresa. With Raymond’s work, the couple moved to Mississippi, where Alice began beauty school. In the early 1960s, Alice returned to Cleveland, working as a furniture salesperson in Tulsa. On May 13, 1962, Allice was saved at 11th Street Baptist Church under Pastor Glen Douglas. In the early 1970s, Alice was instrumental in starting Grace Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and was its church secretary for many years. She attended real estate school with her sister, although she never sold any real estate. Alice owned her own beauty shop as well as a beauty supply store. In her last few years, Alice lived at Linwood Village Care Center in Cushing, Oklahoma.
Alice loved flowers and butterflies! She would garden. When playing cards or dominoes, she would have to win, even if it meant not playing fair. She loved to fish. Alice is described as very outspoken, OCD, and a very strict disciplinarian. It’s told that she longed for a Cadillac, but always drove a Chevrolet. Dedication to her children was evident; she was always there for the girls’ sporting events.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Sherlynn Goins and husband Dale of Cleveland, Oklahoma, and Teresa Shivers and husband David of Prague, Oklahoma; sister Paula Garcia of Cleveland, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren, Trisha Shipman Lameier and husband Mike of Honolulu, Hawaii, Shane Shipman and wife Tracy of Hallett, Oklahoma, Amber Shipman Rogalsky and husband Josh of Luther, Oklahoma, Abbra Scoggin and husband Rett of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, Andrew Shipman and wife Angela of Nelagoney, Oklahoma, and Molly Milmo and husband Russell of Olney, Texas; 4 great grandchildren, Jacob Shipman, Kellen Lameier, Jaylea Scoggin and Lola Milmo as well as many nieces and nephews and long-time friends.
