Sarah Elizabeth (Liz) Nichols Swanson of Stillwater, passed from this life on Thursday November 24, 2022, in Stillwater at the age of 82. Liz was born Sept. 26, 1940, at Hominy, OK to Virgil Scott and Mary Frances (Henton) Nichols. She was raised and received her education in Hominy, graduating with the class of 1958. On August 26, 1960, Liz and John Terrel McDonald were united in marriage in Hominy. To this union, two daughters Laura and LaJonna were born. Liz made her home in the Stillwater and Perkins area while she worked for Oklahoma State University as a secretary in the financial aid department for 12 years. She Later married Charles Edward Swanson on April 17, 2003. Following their marriage, they made their home in Sand Springs where they attended Fisher Baptist Church, now known as “The Fathers House”, where she served on many committees. Liz never met a stranger, so no matter where she went, she made friends. Mr. Swanson preceded her in death on August 15, 2019. She has made her home back in Stillwater for the past two years. Liz was an avid OSU fan of all sports, always cheering them on. Besides all things OSU, she enjoyed needlework, and in her earlier years, she liked to bowl.

Those that survive and hold many cherished memories include her daughters – Laura Leigh Hinkie and husband Ron of Duncan, OK and LaJonna Lynn McDonald of Pawhuska and her stepson Brandon Swanson and wife Paula of Sand Springs. Also surviving are a brother Virgil Nichols and wife Barbara of Stillwater; two sisters Janet Bode of Franklin, IN and Lois Sharpnack and husband Dale of Hominy, OK; two grandsons Chet Austin Dysart and wife Elizabeth of Comanche, OK, Jonathan Dent Dysart of Edmond, OK and a step grandson Jeffrey Swanson of Renton, WA. Three great grandchildren Cohen Dent Dysart and Blair Danielle Dysart of Edmond, OK and Benlee Lassley of Comanche; Nieces Susan Drumright and family of Midland, MI, Kimberly Edwards and family of Greenwood, IN and Erin Devlin and family of Stillwater. Three nephews Ky Nichols and family of Tulsa, OK, Jim Sharpnack and family of Shawnee, KS and Scott Sharpnack and family of Washington, DC. Besides her husband Charles, Liz was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law Bill Bode.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Legacy Village of Stillwater, Ray of Sunshine Helping Hands of Maramec, OK, Stillwater Medical Center, specifically the third-floor nursing staff and Karman Legacy Hospice of Stillwater. Those that would like to donate in lieu of flowers, may do so to either Karman Legacy Hospice of Stillwater or the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Liz will be at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, in the sanctuary of The Fathers House Church at 4008 S. 137th West Ave, Sand Springs, OK with Pastor Danny Lynchard officiating. Burial will follow in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery at Hominy. A viewing for Liz will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
